Rotary Club of Maseru

Poloko Sakoane, President 2021-22

Picture
It is a difficult time to be President of this Club. The COVID-19 Pandemic has really affected the service of Rotary Clubs, district and international level, as we have not been able to raise funds that sustain existing projects and funds that could be injected in to new projects.

Despite the prevailing challenges that are consequences of COVID-19, I am committed to work with our Board and Committees to expand our Club's involvement in all six areas of our focus, namely; peace and conflict prevention/resolution, disease prevention and treatment, water and sanitation, maternal health and basic education and literacy.

When we are faced with difficulties and challenges, we need to rise above it all and triumph.

This year 2021-2022, under the theme ‘serve to change lives’, we are intending to address the following;

1. We  wish to attract new members and retain existing members, as this is the only way through which the the Club can do more for the communities that it serves. Mosotho ore ‘Letsoele le beta poho’, we are stronger together than set apart.

2. For service projects we want to look at projects that will eventually empower the girl child, especially the girl child that is based in the rural areas, as they are automatically disadvantaged by their location.

3. Following an appeal by his majesty to both of our Clubs to find ways to support pupils of Ramokotjo primary school, we are committed to mobilize support towards sustainable solutions that will benefit this school and the community, we wish to extend this effort to other schools and communities that are similarly affected.

We will utilize this project to also address some of the effects resulting from impoverished students which affect their learning readiness. We intend to pursue the latter through strategic complementary partnerships with other Rotary clubs, Civil society organizations, and the business community.

4. We wish to create two rotaractor clubs and resasitate 2 existing interact clubs, one at Machabeng high school and the other at Maseru high school.

I wish the incoming Board of directors a great and blessed year ahead, despite the COVID-19 pandemic challenges. I wish us to align ourselves with this quote from Paul Harris that says, ‘This is a changing world; we must be prepared to change it. The story of Rotary will have to be written again and again”.

Thank you.
